Bio

Roberto Carter (San José, b. 1987) is a painter based in San José, Costa Rica. His paintings are intuitive and playful explorations of the psyche, the self, personal freedom and painting itself. He has been part of museum exhibitions in Spain, Guatemala and Costa Rica. Roberto is a recipient of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture fellowship (United States, 2023) and was selected to exhibit at Salón Acme (México, 2025). He was awarded with the two-dimensional category prize in the National Hall of Visual Arts at the Costa Rican Museum of Art (2023) and at the art exhibition Juannio (Guatemala, 2018). He currently explores new forms of pictorial creation, going deeper into the meditation that has characterized his work. He is preparing for an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MADC) in San José, Costa Rica (October 2025).
